There are many ways to eat grits. Some people like them sweetened with sugar but I like them with just salt,pepper and a little butter with a couple of over medium eggs mixed in.
Some people mix cheese with them, or make them patties and fry them in a little bacon grease when they have cooled off and solidified. They can be eaten with seafood also though I have never personally enjoyed them that way. With eggs was one of my favorite breakfasts growing up and has carried on to my son who eats it on a pretty regular basis.We even buy boxes of grits for him to eat in Texas before we cross the border into mexico for him.
Grits are ground up hominey, Hominey is corn soaked in lye and is a basic ingredient in Pozole (a mexican soup). Grits are NOT anything like cream of wheat by any means. Depending on if you like them runny or on the thicker side they really honestly done have a taste per say. When you add your salt, pepper and a litttle butter to them that is when they get a good flavor and with a couple of fried eggs its just better. Go to the store and get you some and taste them I dare ya!! You just might be surprised to find out you like them and they are good for you and easy to make.
